Posted Updated

BENSON, N.C. — A tractor-trailer carrying a load of frozen hams overturned on northbound Interstate 95 early Friday, authorities said.

The wreck, which occurred about 6:30 a.m. just north of the I-95 interchange with Interstate 40 in southern Johnston County, closed the left lane to northbound traffic, but no lengthy back-ups were reported.

Samuel Burgess was driving from Tarheel when he struck a camper and overcorrected into the left lane, authorities said. The truck fell onto its left side and knocked down 315 feet of guard rail, authoritie said.

No charges have been filed against Burgess. The camper had left the scene before Highway Patrol troopers arrived, and the identity of the driver is unknown.

No one was seriously injured in the wreck, and all lanes were reopened to traffic by mid-morning.
