Get The Lowdown On Holiday Traffic On State's Roadways

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — WRAL has some road information for the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.

All interstate lanes will be open over the Memorial Day weekend. However, on Interstate 95 South, the U.S. Highway 13 exit is closed because of Fayetteville's Outer Loop construction.

Interstate 85/40 in Alamance County will be reduced to three lanes in each direction near Burlington and U.S. Highway 70 in Lenoir, Jones and Craven counties could have lane closures for road resurfacing.

In North Raleigh, the flag wavers are taking a Memorial weekend break on the construction near Falls of Neuse Road at Interstate 540. Drivers who commute in that area each day like Jim Marschausen said that is a holiday gift.

"Yesterday coming home, I sat out here for 13 months waiting for the guys who were directing traffic because they narrowed it down to a single lane," he said.

Road crews with the state Department of Transportation are hustling to finish their portion of the Falls of Neuse Road widening, but crews have been a little preoccupied. They are trying to finish up the next section of Interstate 540 from Falls of Neuse Road to Capital Boulevard.

Crews are hoping to have it all finished by Aug. 14 when Triangle Town Center opens on Capital Boulevard.

The heavy equipment is also taking a Memorial Day break on the Highway 55 widening project at U.S. Highway 1. The lane closures on I-95 in Cumberland County will pick up again next week.
