Tractor-trailer fire briefly shuts down I-40 in Benson

A tractor-trailer carrying a load of milk caught fire in the roadway around 9:20 a.m., causing back-ups that stretched to six miles.

BENSON, N.C. — Traffic was flowing normally on I-40 by 3:30 p.m. after an early morning accident closed two eastbound lanes near Exit 325 in Benson, the Highway Patrol reported.
A tractor-trailer carrying a load of milk caught fire in the roadway around 9:20 a.m., causing back-ups that stretched to six miles.

No one was hurt.

The Johnston County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
