Today@NCCapitol (June 9): Uncertain times on Jones Street

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today @NCCapitol for Tuesday, June 9. Here's what's going on at the General Assembly and around state government.

FIRST UP: The House Finance Committee continues its debate on a bill that would provide limited driving privileges to people in the country illegally. During a meeting last week, the committee turned back an amendment to strip the licensing provision from the bill. However, lawmakers ran out of time before they could vote to put the measure onto the floor. WRAL.com plans to carry this meeting live online. Check the Video Central box on the homepage.

SENATE: The state Senate meets at 2 p.m. Among the bills on its calendar is a measure that would create a study of why teachers are leaving the public school system.

HOUSE: The state House meets at 2 p.m. A measure limiting design regulations cities can put in place for single-family homes is on the calendar. House members could also take a vote on whether to override Gov. Pat McCrory's veto of the bill allowing magistrates and county register of deeds employees to opt out of participating in marriages. The veto override has been sitting on the calendar for days without any action.

COMMITTEES WE'RE WATCHING: The General Assembly publishes a full committee calendar every day. Here are some of the committees we're watching:

House Pensions meets at 10 a.m. to take up the Iran Divestment Act.

House Agriculture meets at 1 p.m. to take up the Farm Act, which includes a controversial provision on deer farming.

THE GOVERNOR: McCrory visits Fayetteville State University in the latest event pitching his proposed $3 billion bond package.
