Today@NCCapitol (June 25): The clock is ticking

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today @NCCapitol for Thursday, June 25. Here's what's going on at the legislature and around state government.

TICK TOCK: Next Tuesday is the last day of the state's fiscal year, and with no permanent budget in sight, leaders in the House and the Senate are negotiating a continuing resolution to keep the lights on until a deal is reached. Rep. Nelson Dollar, R-Wake, would not discuss specifics of the CR on Wednesday, saying House and Senate leaders were still negotiating. A key question seems to be timing, with CRs lasting from weeks to months being discussed.

BUDGET: Meanwhile, the House Finance Committee will continue its review of the finance provisions in the Senate budget first thing Thursday morning. Lawmakers are expected to hear from industries that might be affected by the changes, such as nonprofits that would see their sales tax refunds curtailed under the plan. HOUSE SESSION: The state House meets at noon and is scheduled to take up a bill that would require the liquid with nicotine for e-cigarettes to come in containers with child-proof caps.
