Today@NCCapitol (Aug. 10): Senate poised to vote on incentives; House moves to shield police officer addresses

The Senate is expected to move a bill updating the state's economic incentives programs to the floor Monday night. Meanwhile, the House is scheduled to vote on a measure aimed at stopping employers who skirt workers compensation laws.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today@NCCapitol for Monday, Aug. 10. Here's what's going on at the General Assembly and around state government.

DRONES: Rep. John Torbett, R-Gaston, holds a news conference at 4 p.m. to discuss the economic possibilities that pro-drone legislation could open for North Carolina.

MEDICAID and INCENTIVES: The Senate Appropriations Committee is expected to hear bills reforming the state's Medicaid system and recharging North Carolina's economic development programs Monday afternoon. The incentives bill contains a modified version of a proposed sales tax shift from urban counties to rural counties. Both bills could wind up on the floor Monday night. SENATE: Senators are scheduled to take up a bill that would lock lower income tax rates and government spending into the state constitution. Senior senators said last week that they would likely hear at least one bill, if not both, in the chamber's Appropriations Committee on Monday afternoon. HOUSE: The state House meets at 7 p.m. and will introduce a resolution asking the U.S. Postal Service to create a stamp honoring the Rev. Billy Graham. The chamber is scheduled to vote on bills that would shield law enforcement officers' home addresses from some public records and curb the misclassification of workers by employers who are trying to avoid paying fees such as those related to workers compensation insurance.
