House budget writers are scheduled to take up a bill making changes for the coal ash management commission and the group rewriting the state's academic standards Wednesday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today @NCCapitol. Here's what's going on around the General Assembly.

The Committee We're Watching: The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to take up a bill that would fix a funding issue for the new Coal Ash Management Commission as well as shift some of the burden for a lawsuit over the Rules Review Commission's authority to the state Board of Education. The meeting is at 3:30 p.m. in LOB 643.

The House: House members are scheduled to meet for a no-vote skeleton session at 3 p.m.

The Senate: The Senate is scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. The only item on the calendar deals with unemployment insurance changes.

Advocates: Top officials for the University of North Carolina system, North Carolina Community Colleges and the private North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities will gather at the Research Triangle Park headquarters Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. to "release the findings of a new statewide economic impact study. It is the first-ever multi-sector analysis of higher education’s impact on the North Carolina economy and the most comprehensive report of its kind ever done for a single state."
