Today @NCCapitol (April14): Crowd-funding, team ticket elections on agendas

The House Elections Committee will take up a trio of bills late in the day. Meanwhile, Senate committees will look at a measure to clear the way for crowdfunding in North Carolina and another that would slow the revolving door between state agencies and their contractors.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today @NCCapitol for Tuesday, April 14. Here's what's going on at the General Assembly and elsewhere in state government.

LATE TODAY: House Elections meets at 4 p.m. to take up a trio of bills, two of which would switch all local school board races and statewide judicial races to partisan elections. The third bill would require the governor and lieutenant governor to run as a team. WRAL.com plans to carry this meeting live.

THE GOVERNOR: Gov. Pat McCrory has two public appearances scheduled in Durham, including a tour of the Durham Innovation District at 10 a.m.

IN THE HOUSE: The state House will meet at 3 p.m. It will take up a bill aimed at providing fairer compensation for owners when the state Department of Transportation condemns land.

IN THE SENATE: Senators meet at 2 p.m. and will take up a bill meant to curb the filing of bogus marriage certificates.

COMMITTEES WE'RE WATCHING:

Senate Judiciary I will take up a bill that would clear the way for crowd-funding in North Carolina. The measure would make it easier for small investors to back a company. WRAL.com plans to carry this meeting live.
Senate Commerce will take up a measure calling for the state to divest itself of investments in Iran and a consumer lending measure at 11 a.m. WRAL.com plans to carry this meeting live.
At noon, Senate State & Local Government takes up a bill to curb the practice of state executives going to work for private-sector contractors they once oversaw.

ADVOCATES: The NAACP and "Moral Monday" movement hold a lobby day press conference at 11 a.m.
