RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today @NCCapitol for Monday, June 1. Here's what's going on at the legislature and elsewhere.

HOUSE: The state House is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. and take up two relatively non-controversial bills. One of those would make it a felony offense to assault a member of the North Carolina National Guard.

Social issues highlight political fault lines

SENATE: Members of the state Senate are scheduled to continue debating a proposal that would extend the waiting period for women seeking abortion and restrict which doctors may perform the procedure. WRAL.com plans to carry the Senate floor session live at 7 p.m.

VETOES: Gov. Pat McCrory vetoed bills allowing magistrates to opt out of performing wedding ceremonies and curbing certain kinds of undercover investigations of factory farms. Lawmakers will have a chance this week to decide whether to pass those bills into law over the governor's objections.

GOVERNOR: McCrory has one event on his public calendar. He will attend a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. in Mooresville for IOMAX, a company which, among other things, makes precision strike aircraft.
