Cynthia Edwards, a mom and psychology professor, offers some tips on how to help your college kids take that ultimate step to independence.

Cynthia Edwards has seen what can go wrong when kids head to college without the skills necessary to live on their own.

Edwards, along with being a mom and psychology professor, is also the associate vice president for academic programs at Meredith College in Raleigh. And a big part of her job is helping students who have lost their way.

While college kids are legally considered adults, they're not "done baking yet," she told me. And there are still plenty of opportunities to offer them a little bit of guidance as they take that ultimate step to independence.
