Tip nabs man facing murder charge in wreck that killed sister

A tip lead to the arrest of a man wanted on a second-degree murder charge in the February wreck that killed his sister, Fayetteville police announced Sunday.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A tip lead to the arrest of a man wanted on a second-degree murder charge in the February wreck that killed his sister, Fayetteville police announced Sunday.

Police issued an arrest warrant Friday charging Richard Boyd White Jr., 27, of Morning Glory Drive in Stedman, in the Feb. 8 wreck that killed 22-year-old Elizabeth White.

A Crime Stoppers tipsters told Fayetteville police that Richard White was in Benson. Johnson County sheriff's deputies arrested him there.

He was placed in the Cumberland County jail under a $250,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Monday.

Police said that Richard White lost control of his car while driving along Bragg Boulevard, sending it off the road into a utility pole. He was critically injured, Elizabeth White, who was riding in the front seat, was killed, and a second passenger suffered minor injuries.

Police said at the time that Richard White was under the influence of an impairing substance, and his driver's license was suspended.

He has two convictions for driving while impaired in 2007, as well as convictions for assault on a female and drug offenses, according to state Department of Correction records.
