The results of our not-so-extensive and not really statistically significant couponing survey are in! Read on to find out the shocking results!

As you may recall, the Thursday Thoughts article from last week profiled the annual RedPlum Purse String Study that is conducted each year to gain insight from shoppers. The link to the article is in the box above in case you missed it. To keep the National Couponing Month excitement going, I asked you all to take the short 4-question survey at the end of the article. My thanks for the 35 people who humored me and offered their answers.

Here are the highly anticipated results of the First Annual Smart Shopper Couponing Survey as well as my commentary and analysis:

Question 1.  Are you couponing more this year than you did last year? (yes or no)
Results

Yes: 25

No: 10

Analysis: More of us are couponing this year than last year, which is a good thing since food prices are continuing to go up while incomes....well.....not so much.

Question 2.  How much time per week do you spend searching for deals and coupons?
Results

1 hour or less per week: 2

1 - 2 hours per week: 10

2 - 3 hours per week: 9

More than 3 hours per week: 14

Analysis: There are a lot of couponers spending 3 hours or more in pursuit of the deal each week, which makes sense because incomes are ...well.....I think we have already covered that.

Question 3. Are you spending more time using mobile apps to increase your savings than you did last year? (yes or no)
Results

Yes: 14

No: 21

Analysis: Mobile apps are not quite the best thing to happen to couponing since Double Coupons.

Question 4. Are you spending more time using social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) for your savings than you did last year? (yes or no)
Results

Yes: 25

No: 10

Analysis: More of you have given in and finally created a Facebook page, even though you said you never would, just so you can save $1.25 on Jell-O pudding or $1.50 on Wholly Guacamole.  If I hadn't already had a FB page when companies went coupon crazy on Facebook, I would have done the same thing so I am right there with you!

My thanks again to the dedicated couponers who gave of their precious coupon-clipping time to make this survey a reality!
