With the Memorial Day holiday weekend on the horizon, what frugal plans do you have? Will you be recognizing the holiday in any way? We have a number of free Memorial Day events here in the Triangle to honor the soldiers who have given their lives in service to our country!

With the Memorial Day holiday weekend on the horizon, what frugal plans do you have? Will you be recognizing the holiday in any way? We have a number of free Memorial Day events here in the Triangle to honor the soldiers who have given their lives in service to our country! Please add any other Memorial Events you find.

What are you doing this weekend?

North Carolina State Capitol: Wreath Laying at Veteran's Memorial on Monday, May 28th, 2012 from 10 am - 1 pm.  The Tar Heel Detachment of the Marine Corps League for the greater Raleigh area is sponsoring this free event which will be held on the N.C. State Capital grounds located between Salisbury and Wilmington at Edenton Street.  Click HERE for more information.
Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh: Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 28th, 2012 from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM. They will honor veterans during this free event at the Field of Honor, which is patterned after Arlington Cemetery. Click HERE for more information.
Fayetteville Memorial Day weekend events: There are a number of events honoring Memorial Day and our soldiers who have given their live sin service including parades, band concerts and multiple ceremonies in Fayetteville and the surrounding areas. For a list of these events,  Click HERE.
Bennett Place State Historic Site in Durham is having a free program on Saturday from 10 am - 4 pm titled, "US Military Through the Ages." According to their website, they will have folks portraying soldiers from the French and Indian War, American Revolution, War of 1812, American Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, and Vietnam. There will also be equipment and weapon demonstrations. Click HERE for more information.
Carrboro Town Commons: Free Memorial Day event to honor Victims of War on Monday, May 28th from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM. There will be playing of taps, poetry, music, reading of casualties in the Middle East in the past month. Sposored by Orange County Peace Coalition. Click HERE for more information.
