WARRENTON, N.C. — North Carolina State Highway Patrol officials say two adults and a 5-year-old boy died Monday morning in a head-on collision in Warren County.

According to troopers, Desmond Cornelius Roberts, 26, of Henrico, was driving a 2013 Honda CRV east on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Warrenton at about 6:15 a.m. when he traveled left of center into the path of a 2003 Honda Accord driven by Brittany Nicole Silver, 29, of Norlina.

Roberts had two children with him in the CRV, 5-year-old Joshua Roberts and 7-year-old Anthony Roberts Jr, both from Gaston.

Desmond Roberts, Silver and Joshua Roberts were all killed in the collision, troopers said. Anthony Roberts Jr. was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Duke University Hospital.

Troopers said both children were properly restrained at the time of the collision.

It's unclear why Roberts crossed the center line, but troopers said alcohol and speed were not factors in the wreck.
