Three killed in fiery Rocky Mount crash
Three men were killed early Friday when a vehicle crashed into a brick building in Rocky Mount and burst into flames, police said.
Posted — UpdatedThe crash occurred at about 1:50 a.m. at the intersection of South Grace and Chester streets.
After the Rocky Mount Fire Department put out the fire, police found three bodies inside.
Family members told WRAL News that Jason Britt, Dennis Battle and Cal Gailliard were killed.
Investigators haven't yet identified the men, but people who stopped by the site throughout the day Friday said they were musicians in a local band.
Gailliard is the son of James Gailliard, pastor of Word Tabernacle Church.
A grassy area next to the building was scorched and littered with debris, but that didn't stop people from putting up a small memorial in the men's honor.
"I'm a musician myself, and these guys that I knew who passed away were musicians, were into music in some kind of way," Darrell McDonald said. "It's just a bad feeling, man. It's hitting close to home."
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police said no other vehicles were involved. No other injuries were reported.
