Three inmates escape from N.C. prison
The state Department of Correction and area law enforcement officers were searching Thursday for three inmates who escaped from Morrison Correctional Institution.

Joseph A. Caulder, 20, William D. Bullard, 19, and Richard H. Ames III, 19, were discovered missing from the prison's minimum-custody unit around 7 a.m., authorities said. The prison is in Hoffman, about halfway between Rockingham and Southern Pines.
Dogs tracked the escapees to a Woodgrain Distribution plant a mile or two from the prison, and authorities believe the men stole the cab of a tractor-trailer belonging to the company, said Keith Acree, a Department of Correction spokesman.
The white Freightliner cab has the Woodgrain Distribution name on the side and has Indiana license 199556. Acree said it likely has some front-end damage after it was driven through a gate at the plant.
Caulder was serving eight to 10 months for larceny of firearms and larceny after breaking-and-entering in Scotland County. Bullard was serving six months for larceny of a motor vehicle and forgery in Robeson County. Ames was serving eight to 10 months for larceny from person in Currituck County.
