Three charged in connection with Moore County robbery

Moore County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday charged two men and a woman in connection with an armed robbery and assault at a Carthage home.

CARTHAGE, N.C. — Moore County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday charged two men and a woman in connection with an armed robbery and assault at a Carthage home. 

According to an initial investigation, a man and a woman were held at gunpoint and assaulted after money had been demanded. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries. 

Following the robbery, Julian Lavort Phillips, of 237 Heavenwood Road in Cameron, and Tommy Joe Richardson, 32, fled the scene in a car. A Cameron police officer stopped the car a short time later, finding stolen property from the home and a gun that had been stolen in Chatham County in 2009, authorities said. 

Phillips, 45, was charged with one count each of felony conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony breaking and entering, felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony assault by strangulation, assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony possession of a stolen firearm. 

He was in the Moore County jail Thursday under an $800,000 secured bond. 

Richardson, of 102 Primrose Lane in Cameron, was charged with one count each of felony aiding and abetting an armed robbery and felony conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was in the Moore County jail Thursday under a $10,000 secured bond. 

Deputies also arrested Erin Elizabeth Childress, 29, of 120 Parker St. in Cameron. She is charged with one count each of felony aiding and abetting an armed robbery, felony conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony breaking or entering. She was also in the Moore County jail Thursday under a $10,000 secured bond. 

Phillips, Richardson and Childress are scheduled to make their first court appearances Dec. 13.
