CARY, N.C. — Three Cary schools were locked down briefly Tuesday morning following an armed robbery at a nearby department store.

Cary police Capt. Don Hamilton said the robbery happened at Sears in the Cary Town Center, which is near Cary High School. Witnesses reported the robber drove away on Walnut Street, in the direction of the school.

A spokesman with Wake County public schools said Adams Elementary, East Cary Middle and Cary High schools were placed under a code yellow lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown went into effect shortly before 11 a.m. and was quickly lifted, the spokesman said.

No injuries were reported.
