Three captured after Wake Forest shooting
Police arrested three people Tuesday evening following the shooting of a man in the leg at an auto shop in downtown Wake Forest.
Posted — UpdatedTown spokesman Bill Crabtree said the shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. at Autocare & Quick Lube, 303 E. Roosevelt Ave. Investigators say it did not appear to be a robbery or a random act.
"Obviously the investigation is continuing, but we do not have any indication there was any type of robbery at the business," Crabtree said.
The victim was taken to WakeMed and his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Three suspects fled the scene in the car, which was later stopped by officers on Loghouse Street in the Crenshaw Hall subdivision. The driver was arrested, but the other two suspects got away on foot.
One was arrested around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of Carolina Ale House.
A manhunt ensued for the third, who was captured 20 minutes later along Retail Drive, thanks to a coordinated manhunt by Wake Forest police, the Wake County Sheriff's Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol and Wake County Alcohol Beverage Control, Crabtree said.
The suspects' names and charges were not released.
Violent crime is unusual in Wake Forest, a town of about 30,000 people 17 miles north of downtown Raleigh.
"Wake Forest is a very safe community," Crabtree said. "These type of instances are extremely rare."
