Teens wanted in shooting of 14-year-old

Markelius Leon Chambers, 16, of 1012 Long Ave., is wanted on charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injuries.

Police filed the same charges against a 15-year-old, who also remains at large. His name was withheld because of his age.

A 14-year-old told police that two men wearing black clothing got out of a dark-colored car and began shooting at him and Cortez Sykes in the 600 block of Glendale Avenue around 10:30 p.m. last Saturday. He and Sykes were running down the road when he realized that he had been shot, the boy told police.

The boy was shot in the upper left chest and right leg. He was listed in stable condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville at last check. Sykes wasn't injured.

Police said that Chambers' guardian reported him missing earlier on the day of the shooting.
