Teen shot at Kinston apartment; man charged with attempted murder

A 21-year-old Kinston man has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 16-year-old boy at an apartment complex near East King Street Thursday.

KINSTON, N.C. — A 21-year-old Kinston man has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 16-year-old boy at an apartment complex near East King Street Thursday.

Tremain Armon Kellum was arrested on Colgate Drive shortly after the shooting, Kinston police said. According to authorities, the shooting happened at 312-A Simon Bright Court apartment 11-A around 4 p.m. Thursday.

Tashawn Marquez Burney was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he was listed in fair condition Friday morning. 

Kellum was in the Lenoir County jail under no bond Friday. No other information was released.
