Teen killed in bike-truck collision

A teen from McGee's Crossroads died Monday morning of injuries suffered Sunday when his minibike collided with a pickup truck.

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A teen from McGee's Crossroads died Monday morning of injuries suffered Sunday when his minibike collided with a pickup truck.

Brandon Spence, 14, was riding his bike just before 3 p.m. Sunday on N.C. Highway 59 near South Pleasant Coates Road when he swerved into the path of the truck, troopers said.

The teen was taken to WakeMed. The driver of the truck, Jerry Johnson, 52, was unhurt. Troopers did not expect to charge anyone in the incident.
