Teen gets DWI charge in Burlington crash

Burlington police said the teen tried to flee the scene of the accident but was quickly caught.

A teenager was charged with drunken driving after police said he tried to flee the scene of an accident Burlington on Monday.

Burlington police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Roger Street and Sellars Mill Road about 4:45 p.m. for an accident. They arrived to find Tiffany Graves, 36, of Burlington, trapped in her Dodge Caliber.

Police said Graves was driving north on Sellars Mill Road when she was struck by a Dodge Durango operated by Cody Carter, 17, of Snow Camp. Carter was heading west on Roger Street.

Alamance County rescue personnel freed Graves from her vehicle. She was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Carter fled the accident scene but was found a short distance away and taken into custody without incident.

Carter was charged with driving while impaired, hit and run – personal injury, having no operator’s license, provisional license and operating a vehicle with an open container of alcohol.

Graves’s vehicle received $8,000 in damage, and Carter’s vehicle received $4,000 in damage, police said.

Carter was transported to the Alamance County jail. Bond information was not available.
