Sweet potato fries plant to open in Pembroke
A frozen foods company plans to make sweet potato fries in Robeson County, creating 149 jobs over the next three years, officials said Thursday.

Charlotte-based Trinity Frozen Foods expects to invest more than $15 million in the Pembroke sweet potato processing plant. Initial plans call for producing 12 million to 15 million of fries annually, eventually growing to 50 million pounds a year.
North Carolina is the nation’s leading grower of sweet potatoes.
“This will be the most modern and technological facility of its type in the world,” Trinity Chief Executive Jere Null said in a statement. “We are excited to be locating it here in North Carolina amongst the largest, most abundant source of sweet potatoes in the country.”
Total payroll of the plant is estimated to be more than $34.8 million a year, plus benefits.
Trinity qualifies for a performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund of up to $500,000. The fund provides assistance to economic development projects, but companies must meet job and investment targets to obtain the money.
