Triangle chilled overnight; freezing weekend expected
A cold front from the north settled into the Triangle early Wednesday morning, putting many counties under a freeze warning overnight.

Some towns around the region registered temperatures in the high 20s to begin the day, though that number will climb into the low 60s in the afternoon partially due to sunny skies.
"We're looking at 62 degrees for this afternoon," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "Not as cold tonight—50 degrees. What a change that is, from upper 20s this morning to about 50 for (Thursday) morning."
Wednesday morning's cold snap is the first of two that will make the Triangle feel more like winter than spring. A storm front that will move through Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning will be followed by another cold front to help keep the mercury low.
"It turns colder over the weekend once Thursday's front comes through," Gardner said. "We get another push of colder air, especially for Saturday and Sunday."
On Sunday, runners of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in Raleigh will start their race in the high 20s or low 30s, Gardner said. The cold temperatures could also force another freeze warning that will send farmers scrambling to cover their tender crops.
