SPOUT SPRINGS, N.C. — State troopers said that a Spout Springs man was driving drunk when his SUV ran off the road and struck a tree two houses down from his home Saturday night.

Troopers said that a 1996 silver Toyota Four Runner driven by Roberto Alvarez, of 789 Heritage Way, struck a tree on the left side of the road around 9 p.m. Alvarez was pinned in the SUV and had to be extricated.

He was flown to WakeMed in Raleigh. Troopers said his leg was injured, but he is expected to be OK.
