RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County teacher who was suspended after inviting a controversial speaker to class will meet with the school board Monday.

Students are expected to rally in support of Robert Escamilla after he has his closed-door grievance hearing.

Escamilla was suspended after an invited leader of a Christian organization handed out pamphlets to students that were critical of Islam. Parents complained and school officials said the speaker was "unacceptable.”

Escamilla contended he was not trying to force his Christian beliefs on students.

The teacher was later transferred from Enloe to an alternative high school because of the February incident.
