Suspect shot in arm by Lee County deputy

A Lee County sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after shooting a suspect in the arm Tuesday evening, Sheriff Tracy Lynn Carter said.

SANFORD, N.C. — A Lee County sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after shooting a suspect in the arm Tuesday evening, Sheriff Tracy Lynn Carter said.

The man was shot at about 10:30 p.m. at a residence on Courtland Drive at the Greenland Mobile Home Park, near Sanford.

The suspect, whose name was not released, barricaded himself inside the home with a weapon. The suspect shot at the deputy and the deputy fired back, Carter said.

The suspect was taken into custody.

The SBI is investigating the shooting, following standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings.
