<b>SANFORD, N.C.</b> — A Lee County sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after shooting a suspect in the arm Tuesday evening, Sheriff Tracy Lynn Carter said.

The man was shot at about 10:30 p.m. at a residence on Courtland Drive at the Greenland Mobile Home Park, near Sanford.

The suspect, whose name was not released, barricaded himself inside the home with a weapon. The suspect shot at the deputy and the deputy fired back, Carter said.

The SBI is investigating the shooting, following standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings.
