Suspect Pleads Guilty in Musician's Death
The second of three men charged with the April 2003 slaying of a Fayetteville blues musician pleaded guilty Monday.
Posted — UpdatedTravis Lamar Cole pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Shelly Wooten Jr. as his trial was set to begin in Cumberland County. He was sentenced to between 23 and 29 years in prison. He already has served four years in jail awaiting trial.
Wooten, 78, was found bound in duct tape and wrapped in a sheet in his Lincoln Drive home on April 8, 2003. Investigators said robbery was the motive in his death.
The decorated Korean War veteran was known for his love of music.
As part of Cole's plea agreement, he was expected to testify against co-defendant Charles William Triplin, whose trial was also set to begin Monday.
A third defendant, Alphonso Terry, previously already pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the case.
