Suspect named in shooting that wounded female bystander

Durham police said that a 24-year-old woman was shot when several men got into a fight outside at Maple and East Main streets Saturday afternoon. One man was also injured.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police were searching Monday for a man they believed fired shots during a fight that injured another man and a female bystander.

Hykeem Lamar Dunston, 20, of Bruce Street, was wanted on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injuries.

Investigators believe that Dunston pulled out a gun and fired several shots during an argument with several men at Maple and East Main streets on the afternoon of Jan. 16. Bullets struck a 23-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman on a nearby porch.

The woman underwent surgery and is recovering, police said. The man was treated and released at Duke University Medical Center.
