Suspect in Clayton shooting surrenders

Kenneth Aubrey Reed, 18, faces charges of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury.

CLAYTON, N.C. — Clayton police said the suspect in a Saturday shooting at Clayton Fitness, 1333 Mechanical Drive, has surrendered.

Kenneth Aubrey Reed, 18, faces charges of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury. His last known residence is 307 Wren Lane.

Police responded to the club at about 11 p.m. Saturday to find shell casings and a car damaged by a bullet. Witnesses said the center had been the site of a private party earlier in the evening.

Shortly after the shooting was reported, Clayton Area EMS was called to 312 E. Hinton St. where Nathaniel Douglas Liles Jr., 19, was found with a gunshot wound in his leg.

Liles, of 444 E. Front St., told paramedics that he had been shot outside the fitness center.
