DURHAM, N.C. — A man wanted in the April shooting of a 69-year-old homeowner and an attempted burglary of the man's backyard shed was arrested Thursday in Texas, police said.

Randall Todd Greenough, 45, of Morgan Trail in the Person County community of Timberlake, was arrested by U.S. marshals in Yantis, Texas, which is about an hour east of Dallas.

Greenough faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault on a handicapped person, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, breaking and entering, larceny, discharging a firearm within the city limits, obtaining property by false pretense and possession of stolen property.

A man told police his wife heard noises in the yard on April 13, and he went out to investigate them. He said he saw a man stealing items from his shed and tried to stop him.

The burglar pushed the man against a fence and shot him in the leg before fleeing in a dark-colored car, police said.
