CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police arrested a suspect Friday in a rash of business break-ins that have occurred in recent months.

Corey Scott Shepherd, 40, of 3512 Topaz St. in Wake Forest, was charged Friday with 19 counts of felony breaking-and-entering, 20 counts of misdemeanor damage to property and one count of felony larceny, police said.

Shepherd was released after posting a $43,000 unsecured bond. His first court appearance was set for Tuesday.

Shepherd was released from prison in February 2007 after serving nearly 11 years for a series of break-ins in Wake County in 1994 and 1995, according to state Department of Correction records. Then, he was convicted of 41 counts of felony breaking-and-entering, 31 counts of larceny and 15 forgery-related charges.

He served probation in 1994 for similar charges, DOC records show.
