Surveillance images show suspect in fire at Maverick's Saloon in Fayetteville
Fayetteville police on Thursday released still and video surveillance from Maverick's Saloon on Raeford Road that show a man believed to have started the fire that destroyed the bar on Sept. 9.
Posted — UpdatedAn investigation has determined that the fire was intentional, and that the person who started it used petroleum as an accelerant.
In the surveillance video, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt is seen carrying a gas can, then leaving the scene on foot toward Executive Place.
Amanda Sullivan, an employee at a nearby Exxon station, said she was on duty the night after the fire and the night of a fight between a bouncer and a Fort Bragg soldier that also occurred at Maverick's Saloon.
Authorities said many threats have been made toward the saloon in response to the altercation, which happened a week before the fire.
"They were threatening the bouncers; they were threatening to come to the bar," Sullivan said. "It was crazy."
"Our Thursday, Friday and Saturdays, we don't have as many customers," Sullivan said. "We're not suffering money wise, but customer wise, we're seeing a decrease."
Police asked for help from the public to identify the man in the video. Anyone with any information about the fire or the man pictured is asked to call the police department at 910-723-2742 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477. Tips can also be texted to 274637 with the message "4Tip.”
