SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Johnston County's judicial district manager has filed a restraining order against a probation officer, according to court documents.

A hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday in the case, involving Joyce James and Jeffrey Mackvick.

Keith Acree, a spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, said James supervises probation operations in Harnett, Johnston and Lee counties. Mackvick is a chief probation officer in Clayton.

In her petition for a protective order, James alleges that Mackvick told a psychologist on Nov. 20 that he planned to kill her.

Acree could not comment on the allegation, saying it is a personnel matter.
