Summer storms spark flash flooding, die down quickly
Summer afternoon storms died down quickly Thursday evening after sparking flash flooding around Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.

After 2 to 3 inches of rain fell in Cumberland County, streets around the mall flooded. A minivan got stuck in the flood waters outside the Chili's restaurant near the Morganton Road mall entrance.
The storms across broke apart quickly, though, after
hammering eastern North Carolina and the Sandhills with heavy rain, golf ball-sized hail and lots of lightning, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze.
"The activity pretty much dies down overnight, but we can't rule out a shower as we start the day Friday," Maze said.
With highs in the low 90s, late-day storms could kick up on Friday and throughout the weekend.
"They'll be more activity developing Friday afternoon and evening. Some of these storms could be strong, maybe severe, and we could see the same thing develop during the day Saturday," Maze said.
On Monday, a cold front will drop temperatures into the upper 80s and increase the storm chances for the work week.
