Suicide causes Raleigh apartment fire; woman dead

Firefighters say a blaze that injured one person and destroyed 12 apartments in Raleigh was started when someone tried to commit suicide.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Firefighters say a blaze that injured one person and destroyed 12 apartments in Raleigh was started when someone commited suicide.

Authorities said the fire started around 7:15 p.m. Friday at the Trails of North Hills apartments, in the 1900 block of Generation Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they found a woman with significant burns on a patio. Investigators said the woman had jumped to safety. 

She was taken to a local hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries. Her death was ruled a suicide, police said.

No other injuries were reported, but 24 people were displaced by the fire.
