The State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run Sunday morning in Chatham County.
According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call about a body lying in the roadway near US Highway 64 and Bowers Store Road in Siler City.
Deputies found a body in the roadway when they arrived. Investigators on the scene believed it may have occurred from a crash and later progressed to a hit-and-run.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
The Sheriff’s Office said Highway Patrol was leading the investigation, but deputies would assist troopers.
US-64 near Bowers Store Road was closed while authorities investigated, but it has since reopened.
