Three people were seriously injured in a major accident on State Hwy 96 Saturday night.

The crash happened near Earpsboro Road, closing down the highway for several hours. It has since been allowed to reopen.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with another car going northbound on the highway.

The impact caused both vehicles to careen across the intersection and into a ditch.

The crash left three people with serious injuries. They are currently being treated at WakeMed.

The extent of their injuries remains unknown at this time.
