Northwood High School small forward Drake Powell has committed to UNC, announcing his commitment in a tweet on Thursday evening.

Powell's commitment comes just a few weeks after receiving an offer from the Tar Heels.

A member of the Class of 2024, Powell is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 6 player in North Carolina, according to 247Sports.com.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 170 pounds, Powell averaged 16.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.6 steals per game as a sophomore last season. He helped Northwood to a 24-4 record, including a conference title and a trip to the fourth round of the 3A state playoffs.

Powell's performance earned him a spot on the HighSchoolOT All-State Team and on the N.C. Basketball Coaches Association All-District Team.

As a freshman, Powell helped the Chargers to a 3A state runner-up finish, averaging 11.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

Powell also reported offers from Appalachian State, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, NC State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, VCU, and Wake Forest.
