Two North Carolina barbecue spots have been named among the top 10 best in the South, according to Southern Living.

Lexington Barbecue, which topped "The South's Best" list in 2018, was fifth on the list this year.

Lexington Barbecue, which was founded in 1962, was hailed as "as good as North Carolina barbecue gets" by Southern Living.

"Lexington Barbecue is an iconic practitioner of the Piedmont North Carolina style. That means pork shoulders cooked over oak and hickory coals on closed brick pits and chopped or sliced before serving," Southern Living wrote of the restaurant.

Buxton Hall in Asheville was eighth on the list.

"Buxton Hall wows diners with traditional wood-cooked whole hog, 'chef-driven, grandma-inspired' sides, and homemade cakes and pies," Southern Living wrote. "The setting – a 1930s-era building that once housed a roller-skating rink – is one of a kind, and so are the smoky fried catfish and the green beans cooked 'below the pig' so they catch all the drippings."

Four Rivers Smokehouse in Winter Park, Fla., was named the best barbecue restaurant in the South.

Award winners were selected after an online crowd-sourced survey of the South’s best places.

The Inn on Biltmore Estate in Asheville was named the best resort on the list.

"It provides more than just name recognition—it also serves up a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Southern Living wrote.

The Omni Grove Park in in Asheville was second on the list.

The Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina, was named the best scenic drive.

Manteo and Beaufort were among the top 20 best small towns, while Wrightsville Beach made the top 10 list for best beach towns.

North Carolina claimed five of the top 10 best mountain cities with Boone, Black Mountain, Hendersonville, Highlands and Blowing Rock making the cut.

Asheville was named the sixth-best food city.
