Kathy Hanrahan: Taco Valentine

So every Friday I hope to make you laugh, think and hopefully not cry with a weekly post about life as a parent. Since all of our contributors are doing this Q&A about parenting, I figured I better do it too so you can get to know me!

So every Friday I hope to make you laugh, think and hopefully not cry with a weekly post about life as a parent. Since all of our contributors are doing this Q&A about parenting, I figured I better do it too so you can get to know me!

How many children, pets, family members are you caring for?

2 children (Hayden, 2, and Colton, 8) and 1 husband! Our 16 year old fur baby Faith passed away about a month ago. It was so sad. I really miss her following me around the house and sitting at my feet when I work from home. (Ok, now I'm crying!)

What type of parent would you describe yourself as?

It depends on the day! I try to laugh as much as I can. I try not to let the messy living room or food my toddler throws on the floor bother me. Life can be chaos sometimes, but if we just let go sometimes and laugh about it, it's a lot more fun.

I want to be the Pinterest mom who can make fancy lunches for my children, but that's just not me! I had one Pinterest win - a taco Valentine's Day box that my dad helped me make for my son. It was awesome and probably the only time I'll nail a Pinterest project!

I did have one epic fail when making a unicorn cake.

What has been the most rewarding part of parenting or caregiving?

Watching my children learn new things. I love when my daughter chases my son around the house, looking up at him in adoration of her big brother. I love when the teacher tells me how kind my son is in school and how he wanted to use his book fair money to buy things for his friends instead of himself.

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced in your life?

Secondary infertility after I had my son. The journey for baby number two was the hardest thing I've ever been through.

What are some of the stories or topics you are excited to write about and share on WRAL?

I can't wait to write about the silly things my children do.
