Gonza Tacos y Tequila will be hosting a family-friendly celebration on Friday.

Gonza Tacos y Tequila is closing its popular Hillsborough Street location near North Carolina State University in Raleigh, owners announced on Facebook.

Their last day in business at 2100 Hillsborough St., near the Aloft Hotel, will be Saturday. Gonza's locations in Cary's Waverly Place, north Raleigh and Wake Forest will remain open.

Gonza cited staffing challenges as the reason for the closure, writing, "Unfortunately after the pandemic it has been very difficult for us to find personnel for this location to operate."

The location is in a popular section of Hillsborough Street, right beside Jubula Coffee and minutes from the N.C. State University belltower.

Gonza also operates a food truck and serves food at PNC Arena.

The owners thanked the community in the Facebook post, which collected multiple comments from disappointed customers.

"Wow! Very disappointing! Was our go to for dinner before Wolfpack WBB games," one person wrote.

Gonza Tacos y Tequila's news comes as other bars and restaurants near downtown Raleigh announce closures.

After 22 years in business, Armadillo Grill on Glenwood Avenue recently closed, and Clouds Brewing closed its downtown Raleigh taproom earlier this month.
