DBAP to start brewing own beer

The Durham Bulls Athletic Park is celebrating its 20th anniversary by cracking open a cold one. The stadium announced Friday that it will be brewing and serving its own beer on-site.

The Bull Durham Beer Co. – the only beer company located at a Minor League Baseball stadium – will be located on the ballpark's main concourse. The move makes the DBAP one of a few sports venues in the country brewing beer on site.

Fans at the DBAP will be able to watch the brewing process at the stadium and taste fresh beers once they are complete.

There will be two featured beers available – the Water Tower Wheat and Lollygagger, a Kolsch-style ale. The beers will also be served at restaurants and events around American Tobacco Campus all year long.

Sebastian Wolfrum, who previously served as director of brewing operations for Natty Greene's Brewing Co., will serve as executive brewmaster for Bull Durham Beer.

"The Durham Bulls have a lot to offer with fun, games and good food, and now we are taking refreshing beers to a totally new level,” Wolfrum said. “Our one-of-a-kind craft brewery will redefine the game experience where fans can not only enjoy freshly brewed beverages but be a part of the process as we create our two inaugural beers before their eyes.”

Wolfrum will be joined by head brewer Tate Little.

“We are thrilled to bring the fans an experience that joins two time-honored traditions of baseball and beer together at the ballpark,” Little said. “With our state-of-the-art brewery, we will craft the highest quality beer for Bulls fans. We plan to first offer our Lollygagger Kolsch and Water Tower Wheat early in the season, followed by a more diverse selection of seasonal beers as the year progresses.”

The Durham Bulls have their first home game of the season on Wednesday.
