One of Durham's top holiday traditions, Black Nativity Durham, will return to the stage Friday through Sunday.

This annual holiday production, presented by Triangle Performance Ensemble with co-producers Wendell Tabb and Xavier Cason, is celebrating its 17th year.

Black Nativity Durham is a gospel musical that celebrates the story of the birth of Jesus Christ based on Langston Hughes' version of the Christmas story.

The show will open on the third weekend in December at Hillside High School's John H. Gattis-Wendell Tabb Theater, 3727 Fayetteville Street, Durham.

The performance dates and times are:

  • Friday, Dec. 15 at 8 pm
  • Saturday, Dec. 16 at 3 pm and 8 pm
  • Sunday, Dec. 17 at 3 pm
