Storms possible through Tuesday, but weekend weather looks nice
Periods of storms and heavy rain will punctuate a general pattern of cloudy skies and high humidity in North Carolina over the next several days. Downpours Monday evening caused reduced visibility and slick roads during the rush-hour commute and light rain continued across the area through the night.
Posted — UpdatedMore than an inch of rain fell Monday at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, said WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze.
Heavy rainfall and occasional lightning strikes are possible through Tuesday, particularly in the afternoon and evening, Maze said. Localized heavy downpours are the main threat from these storms.
"You might go out in the morning and it's dry for a while, but when it's time to come home, there may be a heavy shower rolling through," WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.
The storm chances lessen Wednesday as a cold front moves in from the north and west, meaning showers virtually disappear for the remainder of the week, when the humidity will also drop.
Temperatures will be in the low 80s Tuesday, will rise near 90 on Wednesday and then drop back into the lower 80s by Thursday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be in the low 80s, partly cloudy and very nice.
