Storms should stay south, east of Triangle Thursday
Residents of the Sandhills started seeing showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon, and that weather pattern was expected to move west to east through the evening.

"You can't rule out a stray shower in the Triangle tonight," Maze said.
Where storms form, they could include heavy downpours and frequent lightning.
As the atmosphere cools, storms will dissipate, Maze said, and the overnight hours should be clear.
Friday will again see temperatures climb close to 90 degrees before a cool front brings a change for the weekend.
"We have a better chance for storms tomorrow than today in the Triangle," said WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel, "and they will be more widespread and continue into the evening."
That could present a problem for high school football teams scheduled to start the 2013 season Friday evening.
Cooler, drier air will filter into the Triangle behind the passing front, setting up picture-perfect conditions for the weekend. Highs Saturday and Sunday will top out in the mid-80s, and lower dew points will create more comfortable outdoor conditions.
Overnight lows will dip too, falling into the low 60s Saturday and possible into the upper 50s by Sunday.
