Stories of fatherhood, fathers sought for live storytelling event

Now one of the organizers is looking for stories of fatherhood for an event that would be held in June near Father's Day.

Liisa Ogburn, whose piece was featured in last year's Listen to Your Mother show and is helping to organize this year's show, tells me she is seeking stories about fatherhood or fathers for a live, staged reading scheduled for June 10 at Kenan Auditorium at William Peace College in Raleigh. 

Ogburn will be co-producing the show with her daughter's basketball coach, Bruce Ham, author of his memoir, "Laughter, Tears and Braids: A Father's Journey Through Losing His Wife to Cancer." A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Single Fathers Due to Cancer.

So here's their pitch: "Do you have an important story to tell? Here's your opportunity. Sometimes that's all we need to prompt us to finally pen that story that's been rattling around in the back of the brain, something important, meaningful, and just waiting for a deadline to force it out. Just like curators of an exhibit, we're looking for a wide range of stories, an eclectic mix of perspectives and emotions that will hit both the high and low notes, as well as all the notes between. You need not be a father yourself to submit. You may want to tell a story about your father or grandfather."

The pieces must be no more than three to five minutes and are due soon - April 27 (as in this Sunday). Auditions will be held on Tuesday, April 29, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cast will be announced by May 2.
