ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police have accused a Kangaroo gas station clerk of making up a story about a robbery to cover her theft of a deposit.

Police said that Teresa Goff Honeycutt, 46, first told them that two men pushed her and stole a money bag containing $6,000 that she was taking to a bank on Sunset Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Officers, though, didn't find anyone else in area, and Honeycutt couldn't describe the alleged robbers or say where they went, police said.

Investigators concluded that Honeycutt made up the story.

On Friday, Honeycutt was charged with larceny by an employee and filing a false police report. She was being held under a $3,500 bond.
