RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina state trooper has been placed on administrative duty amid a probe into possible criminal behavior, Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jeff Gordon said Wednesday.

The patrol received a complaint about alleged crimes committed by Trooper Bryan R. Phillips, who is based in Wilmington.

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the alleged crimes, which happened while Phillips was off duty, and the Highway Patrol is conducting its own internal investigation, Gordon said.

Phillips joined the Highway Patrol in February 2005, completed patrol school and was officially sworn in on Sept. 15, 2005.

No other information was released.
